Ben (ADOPTED!) is an extremely sweet, calm, and gentle cattle dog mix, who weighs 47 lbs. Our best estimate is that he is 8 or 9 years old. He is a low energy guy, who enjoys relaxing out in the fresh air or resting on the cool wood or tile floor of his home, while hanging out with you.
In the short time that we have had Ben, he has done very well in a variety of situations, and around different people and animals. He is great with everyone he meets. Ben is very friendly with all people. He will greet you easily, with a friendly posture and gladly accept petting. Ben also meets other dogs very nicely, with good manners. If another dog is playful, Ben will join in the fun. He likes to poke the other dog with his front paw to start another round of play. Ben’s foster took him on a family outing to the river. He enjoyed going into the water up to his belly, and just laying in the shade, watching others play and enjoying the outdoors.
Ben is a mellow and generally quiet boy, who tends to sit and wait to do whatever you want to do or go wherever you want to go. He enjoys his walks, and does very nicely on leash. When on leash and something gets his attention, he is easily re-directed. Ben also is an excellent passenger in the car and rides very quietly. We have only seen him around a cat once, so far, and he ignored it as it passed by.
The only times that Ben will use his voice is when he hears distant fire engine sirens (not loud close ones). He will give out a very soft, low howl, which is almost as if he is starting to sing. The only times he will bark, are when large, delivery type trucks rumble past, or if a bicycle whizzes by. Ben is fine with other vehicles, including pick-up trucks.
In summary, this boy is an excellent companion for someone with a moderate to slower lifestyle, but who still enjoys getting outside for a few walks a day, and occasional trips to the beach or park. Ben is a happy and accepting guy, who wants to share experiences and everyday explorations with you.
